I spent nearly 25 years in public education or private higher education, both in Ohio. The year I became ill I left my administrative position in higher ed for opportunities that would ‘make me happy, just enough money to live on and time for family and friends'. After my diagnosis of Idiopathic Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia, I joined the American Autoimmune/Related Diseases Association (and subsequently WAIHA), the National Organization for Rare Diseases, and began working with Momenta Pharmaceuticals to learn everything I possibly could about the disease.
Today, after a year of successful treatment I’m still learning. I also happily design clothing for my Etsy store, AKAConnects, and have a number of remote contract positions. I have two grown children, copious grandchildren, and a Chat Noir. I currently reside in New York.
